Language awareness for teaching staff (Online Course)

This course increases the language awareness of teaching staff so that they can meet the language development needs of pupils who use EAL.

Proficiency in English and academic English can be a barrier to accessing curriculum content and demonstrating understanding for many learners using English as an additional language. Some learners might have a good understanding of concepts but need support with the language necessary for fully engaging with activities or assessments.

This course for school practitioners develops awareness of how the English language works and focuses on the areas of English known to be more difficult for learners who use EAL. By being more aware of how language is used in curricular lessons teachers can support learners with EAL effectively, and this course offers practical strategies for achieving this, regardless of a teacher’s subject area or specialism.

This three-module course is designed to work around the busy lives of those within the education sector - tickets are available for either primary or secondary practitioners. With three hours of online study over a four-week period, this course enables practitioners to work at a manageable pace with plenty of time to process course content and consider relevance to their context. The course is designed to be highly interactive and collaborative, with opportunities to work with other course participants, course tutors and course material. Module Two consists of a live webinar which actively encourages participants to ask questions and share best practice in real time.

A certificate will be awarded for successful completion of the course.

Ticket sales close Monday 27 September 4pm.
