EAL Coordinators: Organising Impactful EAL Provision for Plurilingual Learners (Online Course)
This online course aims to provide EAL Coordinators with the theoretical knowledge and practical strategies required to support them in organising impactful and inclusive EAL provision in their school.
This course aims to help international school staff develop their understanding of what impactful and inclusive EAL provision looks like and offers practical strategies to help achieve this.
Participants will:
- Critically review key theories around language acquisition and consider the implications for the organisation of EAL provision at their school.
- Explore the role of an EAL Coordinator and be introduced to approaches to data collection and developing a whole school language policy.
- Reflect on the different approaches to EAL provision typically found in international schools.
- Learn about dimensions of inclusive practice and explore strategies for developing them within their specific school context.
In the implementation phase of the course, participants will apply what they have learned by drafting an inclusive language policy or creating an action plan outlining next steps for improving EAL provision in their own context.
This three-module course is designed to work around the busy schedules of professionals in schools. With five hours of online study over a four-week period, the course enables participants to work at a manageable pace with plenty of time to process course content and apply relevant insights to their contexts. The course is designed to be highly interactive and collaborative, with opportunities to work with other course participants, course tutors and course material. Module two consists of a live webinar where participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from and with each other in real time. The course is suitable for both primary and secondary practitioners.
A certificate will be awarded for successful completion of the course.

Tutors are experienced teacher educators with substantial experience of teaching and assessing learners who use EAL in relevant contexts. Tutors are trained e-moderators and offer friendly, practical specialist support to all participants throughout the course.

- EAL teachers who would like to become EAL Coordinators.
Module One (Week 1):
Pre-webinar online tasks: completed at your own pace over a seven-day period.
Time commitment: minimum 2 hours.
Module Two (Week 2):
Live interactive webinar with the course tutors:
- Wednesday 23 November, 9.30am - 10.30am UK time (UTC+0)
- Thursday 24 November, 12:30pm – 1.30pm UK time (UTC+0)
Time commitment: 1 hour.
Module Three (Weeks 2-4):
Post webinar project implementing learning.
Time commitment: minimum 2 hours.
