Supporting New Refugee Arrivals in the Inclusive Primary Classroom (Webinar)

This webinar explores how classroom practitioners can create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for new to English learners.

This webinar will explore practical ways in which primary teachers and teaching assistants can create a learning environment which is socially, academically, and linguistically inclusive. We will consider strategies, many of which require minimal preparation, that will ensure that new arrivals, including those who are new to English, can meaningfully participate in and make contributions to all aspects of school life; both social and academic

Areas of focus will include:

  • The importance of collating and sharing information about new arrivals.
  • The case for mainstream education.
  • Social inclusion; the role of buddies, including those who speak the same languages.
  • Academic inclusion; supporting learners with the learning process.
  • Parental engagement.
