Using The EAL Assessment Framework with Advanced English Language Learners (Secondary)

This webinar explores how secondary practitioners at international schools can use the EAL Assessment Framework to promote linguistic development of Advanced EAL Learners.

Looking at specific examples of descriptors, the webinar will examine characteristics of student language at Band C (Developing competence), Band D (Competent) and Band E (Fluent) and consider how the Framework can be used for both assessment and target setting at these higher proficiency bands. It will also link the descriptors to practical strategies for developing advanced language skills across the curriculum.

The overall aim of the webinar is to help teachers provide continued language support for plurilingual learners once they are able to use English more independently to ensure their learners can meet their academic potential.

This webinar will explore:

  • Why assessment of Advanced English Language learners is important.
  • An Introduction to the EAL Assessment Framework for Schools (Secondary).
  • Suggestions for how the framework might be used with Advanced English Language learners.
