Refugee Action

The Pathways to Employment project seeks to enable the integration of refugees by supporting the journey of participants into employment.

Project objectives

The project aims to increase the integration of vulnerable people from refugee backgrounds by:

  • Addressing pre-employment barriers faced by refugees.
  • Supporting participants to improve their working English.
  • Supporting participants to navigate the jobs market.
  • Enabling participants to take positive action towards their employment goals and address systemic issues.

Project partners

Refugee Action is a charity that:

“Exists to help refugees and people seeking asylum who have survived some of the world’s worst regimes. After fleeing unimaginable horrors, they find themselves in a continued crisis in the UK, often homeless, living in poverty and unable to work. We provide them with the support they need to live again with dignity, we build collaborative and transformative initiatives to strengthen the refugee and migrant sector and increase access to justice, and we campaign for a fair and compassionate asylum system”.

About the project

Working with settled refugees, asylum seekers and new arrivals, this three-year project enables beneficiaries to increase their readiness to engage in the labour market. Participants are supported to improve their employability by taking positive steps to secure a volunteer or job placement, to access vocational training or to progress to formal English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) provision. The project, which offers both group sessions and one to one employment support, aims to engage 240 participants in the project.
