Explore our policy recommendations for breaking down language barriers
in schools, adult education, and the criminal justice system.
This framework for recommendations and actions is aimed at schools who are new to welcoming and including learners who are refugees. If schools have been able to access funding for these learners, the recommendations set out how this funding could be used to provide sustainable whole school systems and support.
It should be noted that although the guidance has been framed around sustainable uses of funding available for refugee learners, the recommendations and actions would be equally applicable and relevant for those seeking asylum. If schools do not have access to any funding, the recommendations also provide a way to access and harness resources and training that are freely available.
The framework has been drawn up to create school environments in which refugee children feel safe, feel they belong, and have opportunities to succeed academically and beyond.
