Our Work with Schools (EAL)

Improving outcomes for pupils who use English as an Additional Language (EAL) through support for schools and influencing policy change.

If we want to give our young people the very best education and the very best opportunities, we've got to become specialists in EAL so that they don't have any limitations or limiting factors that stop them from achieving the success that they're capable of

One in five pupils in England speak English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Multilingualism is an asset – for the learner, for the school, and for society. But, without effective classroom support, EAL learners may not achieve their potential.

Since 2012, we have worked to improve the outcomes for these learners, responding rapidly to the needs of schools, providing teachers with evidence-based resources and training to support learners effectively and confidently, and seeking system change through our work on policy.
