Integrating EAL and SEND Provision in Schools Course

This course aims to support senior leaders, EAL Co-ordinators/Leads and SENDCos in primary and secondary schools, to identify accurately and quickly, multilingual learners who use EAL, who may have a special educational need or disability, and to strengthen their provision for those learners.

What is the Integrating EAL and SEND provision in schools course?

This course aims to support senior leaders, EAL Co-ordinators/Leads and SENDCos in primary and secondary schools, to identify accurately and quickly, multilingual learners who use EAL, who may have a special educational need or disability, and to strengthen their provision for those learners.   

How is it organised? 

Module 1 (which takes NO OF HOURS) is aimed at all participants and covers the following:  

  • The national context; 
  • How multilingualism works; 
  • English language acquisition; 
  • A whole-school strategy.  

There are two versions of module two: one for senior leaders and one for the EAL Co-ordinator and SENDCo.  

Module Two for Senior Leaders (which takes NO OF HOURS) covers the following:   

  • Conducting an audit of your school’s provision; 
  • Preparing an action plan to strengthen provision, where necessary;  
  • A focus on the process of EAL and SEND provision;  
  • Professional training for your staff;  
  • Co-operation between the EAL Co-ordinator and SENDCo.  

Module Two for EAL Co-ordinators and SENDCos (which takes NO OF HOURS) covers the following:  

  • Conducting an audit of your school’s provision;  
  • Preparing an action plan to strengthen provision, where necessary;  
  • Admission and language assessments;  
  • The four categories of SEND;  
  • Referrals;  
  • EAL Co-ordinator and SENDCo cooperation;  
  • Steps in SEND identification;  
  • Language and SEND identification;  
  • The graduated response;  
  • Provision for assessment;  
  • Transition between schools;  
  • Case studies for consolidating your knowledge.
