Prison ESOL Screening Tool for Speaking and Listening

Individuals in prison who speak English as a second or additional language can have additional needs, and unidentified language needs can exacerbate other problems faced in prison. Identifying these individuals is the first step to providing the necessary support, in and out of the classroom, to allow them to engage properly in the prison regime and progress through their sentence plan.

The tool is designed to be used by any member of staff to identify individuals with English language needs, and refer them for further assessment or support.
