EAL Assessment in Practice: Case Studies from International Schools (Webinar)

This webinar will feature a panel of international school EAL specialists sharing practical guidance on using The Bell Foundation EAL Assessment Framework for Schools.

Robust and systematic English as an Additional Language (EAL) assessment is vital for organising effective EAL provision. However, the practicalities of embedding EAL assessment can present many challenges. This webinar features a panel discussion to explore how educators in different international school contexts have embedded EAL assessment in their settings. EAL practitioners Deborah Thomas (The British School of Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Adrienn Szlapak (St Joseph’s Institution International School, Malaysia) will discuss their experiences using The Bell Foundation Assessment Framework for Schools and the successes and challenges they have experienced.

By hearing first-hand accounts of how different schools have approached the challenges of EAL assessment, participants will come away with practical ideas and inspiration they can apply in their own setting. The webinar will also include a Q&A section where participants can pose questions to the panellists.

Areas of focus will include:

  • Implementing consistent assessment for EAL throughout your school.
  • Tips for using the framework with large numbers of EAL learners.
  • Deciding which students to assess.
  • Methods for collecting and using assessment data about plurilingual learners.
  • Approaches to collaborating with colleagues to use the framework.
  • Supplemental resources for EAL assessment.
