Embedding the Assessment of EAL Learners’ Proficiency in English (Online Course)

This course helps international school leaders and EAL co-ordinators embed effective assessment of pupils who use EAL across their school.

This course is aimed at international school staff with decision-making responsibilities for EAL provision. Participants will learn how to embed effective practices for assessing the English language proficiency of pupils using English as an Additional Language (EAL), leading to more targeted in-class support and improved learner outcomes for these pupils.

Participants will explore:

  • How EAL assessment can be successfully integrated into existing school policies and systems.
  • Who is best placed to carry out different aspects of the EAL assessment process.
  • What CPD is needed for relevant staff to ensure EAL assessment is fully embedded.

The course familiarises practitioners with The Bell Foundation’s award-winning EAL Assessment Framework for Schools and provides pragmatic, specialist guidance on using the Framework within a context of what is realistic and what can work alongside existing assessment systems.

This three-module course is designed to work around the busy schedules of professionals in schools. With five hours of online study over a four-week period, the course enables participants to work at a manageable pace with plenty of time to process course content and apply relevant insights to their contexts. It is designed to be highly interactive and collaborative, with opportunities to work with other course participants, course tutors and course material. Module two consists of a live webinar where participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from and with each other in real time.

A certificate will be awarded for successful completion of the course.

Course dates: 22 February – 22 March 2023.

Ticket sales end Monday 20 February 2023 at 9am UK time (UTC +0).
