How can schools support EAL learners arriving from Year 9 and beyond? (Webinar)
Join us to explore some of the challenges facing late arrivals to secondary schools, and how schools can support this vulnerable group.
This is the second in a series of webinars drawing on research commissioned by The Bell Foundation into the experiences of learners who arrive late to the UK education system. In September’s webinar, “Why Are So Many Refugees In The UK Missing Out On Education?” a panel group explored the findings of REUK’s research “Education for late arrivals” on the barriers to young refugees accessing education, and considered what needs to change at a policy level.
In this webinar, a panel of speakers will consider the findings and recommendations in the research from a more practical perspective and will share personal insights into some of the experiences of late arrivals. Additionally, the panel will offer practical ideas around how schools might support learners, including in the transition to post-16 education.
Panel:
- Sarah Moodie – Trainer, The Bell Foundation.
- Alice Robinson- Research Manager, Refugee Education UK (REUK)
- A Youth Ambassador from Kent Refugee Action Network (KRAN)
