Introduction to EAL Assessment Primary (Online Regional Training)

This session aims to familiarise practitioners with The Bell Foundation EAL Assessment Framework for Schools, and to raise awareness of how the Framework can be used to assess English language proficiency, to monitor ongoing progress and to promote language development by setting appropriate language learning targets for pupils using EAL. It aims to provide the necessary levels of support and training for teachers/schools to carry out EAL assessments effectively within their settings, leading to greater confidence among staff in applying EAL assessment practices and more standardised assessments of EAL learners. It is informed by the belief that high quality EAL assessment can help teachers and pupils find out what has been achieved and what more needs to be done. It promotes use of the Framework to support the teaching and learning of learners who use EAL and to enable teachers to generate targets to guide progress.
