This pack introduces learners at KS3 to four aspects of the civil rights movement (bus boycotts, marches, sit-ins, and legal opposition). The pack consists of:

  • A PowerPoint with images to contextualise the background to civil rights movement in the 1950s and 60s.
  • A bilingual glossary for learners to make a note of key vocabulary.
  • A jigsaw reading activity where learners each read about a different aspect of the civil rights movement. Learners then share what they learnt by completing a table.
  • Critical thinking questions to consider how to effect change and how learners influence change in their own lives.
