How does it feel to suddenly leave all that you know and travel far away to a new place with a new language and different ways to do things? Find out in this interactive and visual resource that follows the story of a family who have to experience this.
This resource is based on the beautiful story “The Journey” by Francesca Sanna. The collaborative and interactive activities in this KS2 EAL resource provide an opportunity to develop and use vocabulary and modelled language structures associated with the story. This supports and enables multilingual learners to sequence the key events and explore the themes evident in the story so that they can participate in related discussions.
The resource pack includes:
- A collaborative board game;
- A set of sentences to sequence adapted for different levels of proficiency in English;
- A visual word mat.
This resource was inspired by Zoe Welsh with Willow Park Primary. Zoe is a specialist teacher of new arrivals and migrant learners using EAL.
