World War II word mat activities

This set of resources is based around a visual word mat with images of Winston Churchill, Adolf Hitler, a gas mask, a ration book, evacuees, a barrage balloon, a swastika, an air raid shelter, etc.

Activities include matching activities, a lotto game and a series of writing activities using a substitution table, cloze activity and writing frame. A great way to explore World War II.

The resources are great to use with the whole class or in small groups and the teaching notes give ideas of how to use the resources to best effect with EAL pupils. The activities are fun and the language structures clear and explicit, encouraging learners to use language accurately but creatively.
