Siegfried Sassoon's antiwar writing Part 2
The resources support multilingual learners to access the meaning in Sassoon’s anti-war statement. The resources include visuals that illustrate the context of the First World War, to assist learners’ understanding of Sassoon’s argument. Through creating bilingual glossaries, preparing a summary and identifying synonyms, learners will develop an understanding of the language of the text.
In Part two of the resources, learners will access scaffolding in the form of sentence frames to make comparisons between Sassoon’s poem and statement. Additional activities provide preparation and support for learners to write their own letter to the press. In this process they will practise annotating the text, to explore how the text is structured, and how the writer has built their argument. This preparation is followed by the writing activity, using the support of a writing frame.
