Oracy and EAL: what does it sound like in a multilingual classroom? (Webinar)

Multilingual learners bring a wealth of linguistic and cultural resources to the classroom, yet too often they have limited opportunities to use talk as a tool for learning. In this second webinar in our series focusing on oracy, Professor Naomi Flynn explores why oracy matters for multilingual learners and how talk-rich classrooms can improve learning, participation and attainment.

Drawing on Naomi’s practical research with schools, and her co-produced Talk-Rich Teaching Toolkit, in this webinar we will explore:

• the principles of effective oracy education and learn how purposeful classroom talk supports both language development and deeper thinking across the curriculum;

• classroom strategies that teachers can implement, alongside insights into how schools have developed sustainable, whole-school approaches to talk-rich practice;

• how oracy can become a powerful lever for equity, enabling multilingual learners not only to access learning but to contribute, participate, and flourish.
